The UN has dedicated this decade 2021-2030 to particularly focus on the world’s ocean areas. Research and cooperation are to contribute to sustainable community development and support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal No. 14, which objective is to conserve and ensure the sustainable use of the oceans and their resources.

The Danish, Greenlandic, and Faroese committee has been established at the request of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (UNESCO-IOC), which, with a UN mandate, plans and coordinates the UN’s Decade internationally.

Priorities for the Ocean Decade
At the constitutive workshop, the committee’s associated thematic groups were formed, and their headings were defined. This forms the basis for the decade’s priorities in Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands. The priorities are continuously updated here.
